Try It Tuesday: The Groove Fitness Studio

  • Deborah

Let me introduce you to Jen Burgmeier, the owner and main instructor at The Groove Fitness Studio in Altoona, PA. Jen is the instructor I was referring to yesterday when I shared Sidewalk Prophet’s song “Smile.”

I first found Jen’s classes on YouTube several years ago when I was looking for a way to continue my dance aerobics while on vacation. When the pandemic hit, and gyms were closed, I moved from YouTube to Jen’s channel. Since then she has changed the platform to Groove Fitness On Demand. The app has a library of videos in both latin and pop dance as well as HIIT, Pilates-Boxing, and strength with stretch.

A few weeks ago, in a message conversation with Jen I told her it was obvious when she was teaching a class that she was doing what God created her to do. Her response was that she truly treats her work like a ministry.

Her dedication to her students including seniors is obvious and recently she won an award with Silver Sneakers—a national organization dedicated to helping seniors stay fit and mobile.

Jen’s dedication to community is obvious. Recently Jen created an on demand Facebook group in order to build community among those of us who participate online from across the world. On the website, Jen writes, “The Groove is so much more than just a place to exercise.  We are truly a family.  Friendships have been made and peoples lives have changed just by walking through these doors.”

I invite you to watch the video of Jen’s history and if you are so inspired, try the on demand service for a free week.

I’ve written quite a bit about the four aspects of your health: mind, body, heart, and spirit. I personally have found that doing Jen’s classes hit all four of those parts for me.

Try it. You might find a new way to rev your metabolism, strengthen your muscles, create joy, and lift your spirit in the process.

  1. I love that you are sharing Jens story. I am one of the lucky ones as I live 1 mile from Groove and I attend the Gold class 3 days a week and the other 4 days I do on demand classes or recorded classes. I have not missed a day since March of 202o. I have never stuck to an excercise program for any length of time But THEN I found Jen! And that changed my life. She is amazing! I love being part of the Groove family.
