My grandmother used to say, “God’s in His Heaven, all’s right with the world.” It was generally a statement of nature’s beauty–on a clear day when she could see the Rocky Mountains from her porch and her family was gathered around her. There is something about that statement that has remained with me all these years.
It seems to say, God is looking out for me and everything is all right.
There is biblical truth to be found in that statement when we combine this phrase with yesterday’s, ‘Our Father. “
“Our Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9
Notice there is no comma between Father and who. Our Father resides in Heaven but more importantly, Heaven is a part of who He is. He is our Heavenly Father. God is not a giant version of your earthly Father. He is perfect in His love and care for you. Even when you do not understand what is going on in your life.
God resides in Heaven. We reside on Earth. God lives in the supernatural realm. We live in the natural realm. Heaven’s supernatural nature is God’s nature. The prophet Isaiah gives us insight into the “so what” of this notion that God is not of this earth.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,Greek
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8–9
God’s perspective on our life is different than ours. He sees the end from the beginning. He operates on a whole different plane of thinking and operating than we do.
What does this mean to you? Consider Romans 8:28
“ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Check the Greek translation for the word “all” and you will find that “all” means “all.” All things. No matter what it looks like to you in the moment. God is at work for your good.
That is Heavenly perspective.
You might not be able to say, “all’s right with the world” today.
In faith you can say, “God’s in His Heaven, He’s at work for my good.”
