By now, I pray that you have a better idea of who you are, a better picture of where you fit in the body of Christ and your world, and you have a clearer vision of where you are heading.
Today’s question is this:
When you compare your life right now and the destination that the Lord showed you for your future, what do you need to do to prepare yourself for the amazing future God has shown you?
We are not to bury our talents in the ground; we are to take risks and invest in our talents and in ourselves in order to accomplish what God asks of us.
Who of us does not want to hear our master’s reward?
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25: 23 NIV
To discover what you need for your future:
Take some time to reflect on that big dream that you carry.
Write down what it looks like when you operate in what God created you to do:
What do you see yourself doing? Write a description of a “day in the life” , a “week in the life” schedule and a “month in the life” itinerary.
Then take a hard look and compare your “now’ with your description. Recognize (without and judgment or condemnation!) the disparity between your “now” and your vision of the future.
Next, list the skills you will need to make that picture a reality.
- What areas need training?
- What skill could use some refreshment and polish?
- What habits need to be practiced?
- What research can you do to reveal any of the above?
Then, list the spiritual or heart issues that may need to be addressed before you can be the most effective at the work ahead.
- Do you have areas of wounding that need to be healed?
- Do you have people to forgive?
- Do you carry self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back?
Finally, list your options for to learn new skills, polish learned skills, or find healing through ministries, books, programs, or therapy. Consider your brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ. Who might be willing and able to help you in this journey?
Sit with the Lord to prioritize your to-do list and take the first step. I suggest that you start with three items on your list. Prioritize them and give yourself a deadline for each of the three.
Before you know it the gap between now and the future will lessen because you took the next right step.
One right step after the other is exactly the path that will take you into the amazing future that the Lord has for you.
