My daughter-in-law recently asked if I had read the book Untamed. I had not so she lent me her copy and we agreed to discuss it once I finished it. By the end of the prologue I was hooked and knew I needed my own copy. My hand was itching to underline so much of what author Glennon Doyle has written.
Although this book could be a quick read, I have disciplined myself to read no more than two chapters a day. I want to give myself time to fully digest the truths tucked within the story of Ms. Doyle’s life.
Untamed would not be found in the faith-based section of your local bookstore. It is however a book full of truths that I have shared with my Created For So Much More, Soaring Into So Much More, and Ministry Mastermind groups . Here are a few quotes that have struck me.
“First the pain, then the waiting, then the rising. All of our suffering comes when we try to get to our resurrection without allowing ourselves to be crucified first.”—Page 52, Untamed
“What I learned (even though I am afraid to say it) is that God lives in this deepness inside me. When I recognize God’s presence and guidance, God celebrated by flooding me with warm liquid gold.”—Page 58, Untamed
“It’s my daily reminder that, if I am willing to sit in the stillness with myself, I always know what to do.”—Page 60, Untamed
“If we are truly alive, we are constantly losing who we just were, what we just built, what we just believed, what we just knew to be true.”—Page 74, Untamed
I do not agree with everything that Ms. Doyle writes and believes. That is a good thing. Her viewpoint is a window into someone who doesn’t think exactly like I do. It broadens my understanding of the world and challenges me to ask myself what it is I believe and why is it I believe as I do. It takes me to the feet of Jesus at times to ask His perspective.
Meanwhile there is much I do agree with and great truth that can be gleaned from this book. I highly recommend Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
