“O taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed it the man who takes refuge in Him!
O fear the Lord, you His saints
For to those who fear Him there is no want,
The young lions do lack and suffer hunger;
But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.”
Psalm 34: 8–10
There is a common phrase among health professionals that says, “Eat the rainbow.” The advice is to explore fruits and vegetables of many different colors. More than just appealing to the eye, fresh food with a many of colors nourish our bodies with a variety of nutrients.
Recently I have taken this advice to heart by expanding my list of fresh produce that I consider, purchase, and prepare. What I have discovered is that when I add variety to my diet I appreciate the taste of everything on my plate so much more.
God has provided us with an abundance of fruits and vegetables that bring greater health to our brains and our bodies. Next time you are grocery shopping consider the purple cabbage over the green cabbage. Add a red, orange, or yellow pepper to your cart rather than a green one. Consider a mix of greens that includes radicchio, red leaf lettuce, and more.
We can all get in ruts with our food choices. We tend to reach for what is familiar and easy. I suggest you reach for the rainbow and explore the abundance of God’s creation.
Try it! You too will say,”Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
Your body will thank you.
