Try It Tuesday: Bible Gateway

Take a sneak peek at the tabs I have open on my internet browser at any given time and you will most likely see one for Bible Gateway—www.biblegateway.com. This website is a must for authors, bloggers, teachers, and anyone who wants to dig into the Word of God.

Here’s what I love about the website and the different ways I use it:

  • I enter a specific scripture reference, pick the translation of the Bible I want to use, copy and paste it into a blog, manuscript, or teaching.
  • With that same scripture reference in place, I change the translation of the Bible to use to see differences.
  • With the same scripture reference in place, I scroll past the footnotes and hit the link that says “Philippians 1:6 in all English translations” to see all of the various ways this verse has been translated.
  • I enter a key word and see a list of the scriptures (not just references, but the actual verse) in my selected translation with that word. An example, while preparing to lead the Created For So Much More groups on the chapter about rest, I entered “rest” in the search box. Up came over 400 scriptures with some form of the word rest: including restored, restoration, and more.
  • Know a phrase from a verse but don’t know exactly where to find it? Enter the phrase in the search box and it will show you where it is found.

For an author, blogger, teacher, and studier of the Word, Bible Gateway is a versatile and—for me—a necessary tool.
