The Word Made Flesh

  • Deborah

Today I want to dissect a verse in Scripture that we hear and see frequently this time of year. Isaiah 9:6. Let’s take a look at words used in this description of Jesus. As you read through the verse and the post, ask yourself what difference does this make for my life?

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 KJV

Let’s look at the words that are God.

Wonderful

Many times we think of this word as a nice positive descriptor. In some translations there is no comma between the words wonderful and counselor. I recommend we separate the two in order to consider the supernatural element of Jesus. He is miracle working power. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit cause me to be full of wonder—They are wonder-full.

Counsellor

One of the things I do in my ministry is counsel others—helping them find their way to who God created them to be and what He created them to do. Jesus is the perfect counselor. He knows us better than we know ourselves and will guide us on the path of life, step by step.

The Mighty God

Jesus is full of power and might. Need any heavy lifting in your life? Ask Jesus to give you a hand. He loves to flex His supernatural muscles on His children’s behalf. Ask, seek, and knock  (Matthew 7:7) and see how God answers the door.

The Everlasting Father

A relationship of infinite love that lasts forever. A father that is always a breath away. On this earth our birth and spiritual fathers come and go. Your Heavenly Father is a constant in your life. He can be trusted with your life and your life’s decisions.

Prince of Peace

Jesus is the prince. He is royalty. He is the sovereign ruler of peace. His words bring refreshment to our souls. His Presence calms us in this busy season. He rules and reigns over anxiety to bring peace to His children.

As I conclude this journey about words, I am reminded of Simon Peter’s answer to Jesus in John 6.

“Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.’”

John 6:68-69

To whom shall we go when we search for the right word for our circumstances? We go to Jesus, the Holy One of God. He is the word made flesh.

Let us bow down in worship to our Newborn King—the source of all the words of eternal life.

Hallelujah!
