Syncopated Beat

  • Deborah

Are you feeling stretched? Do the old ways of doing things no longer work? Are you feeling restless and have a touch of God’s holy discontentment?

All of the above can happen when God starts doing a new thing in your life.

“‘Do not call to mind the former things,
Or ponder things of the past.

“Behold, I will do something new,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert.’”
Isaiah 43:18-19

The other day I was talking with a friend about the new things God was asking me to do and I said, “My rhythm feels off.”

We talked about that for awhile and then Holy Spirit reminded me of about syncopated rhythms and how strange they sound and feel when you are used to a steady beat.

Oxford Languages defines syncopate as ‘to displace the beats or accents in (music or a rhythm) so that strong beats become weak and vice versa.”

Change of any kind will reveal weaknesses. God takes those weaknesses and through His grace He makes them strong.

 “And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’”

2 Corinthians 12:9

Syncopation is different but it is still beautiful and in harmony with the total composition.

If you feel like your rhythm is off, ask yourself if God is doing a new thing. He might just be changing the rhythm of your life to match the beat of His drum. Trust that He is creating a beautiful piece of music in your life and follow His lead.
