The past three weeks have been tough for me and my extended family as we experienced the end of a loved one’s battle with cancer. I admit, I have not felt very creative and at times I have felt that my mind could not concentrate on writing this blog.
The enemy whispered, “If you don’t sow, you won’t reap.” He tried to pile the guilt on as he misapplied Galatians 6: 7 which says, “For whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”
God’s truth tells me that if I attend to family needs I am sowing into the lives of others, doing important ministry, and advancing God’s Kingdom. It may not look like what my ministry work looks like most days, but it is just as important.
Living out your God-given purpose does not always involve doing “work” things like writing blogs or newsletters, posting on social media, having a number of coaching appointments, etc. Sometimes embracing your God-given purpose means hanging out with family members, babysitting grandchildren, organizing pantries and refrigerators, and so much more.
I have learned it is okay to rest from “ministry work” in order to sow into the lives of your family and friends.
Galatians 6:10 says, “So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.”
Doing good where and when it is needed is sowing in the right field. The harvest may not be seen in terms of increased subscribers or attendees, but I know God will reap a bountiful harvest of love, joy, and peace whenever you choose to sow into the lives of those around you.
