Seek First

  • Deborah

This morning I listened to a meditation about seeking God’s right way of doing things above all else.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

I have said it before, God’s Kingdom is an upside down kingdom that tells us to love our enemies, to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to forgive others so that we ourselves will be forgiven.

What does that kingdom perspective have to do with our daily lives of seeking God’s kingdom when we are in the midst of children crying, fixing meals for our family, worrying about financial provision, our overly long to-do list, or any number of things that threaten to derail us from seeking God?

I asked the Lord that very question as I  faced one of those days of back-to-back meetings and appointments coupled with administrative work that needed my attention.

He brought several scriptures to mind in answer to my question.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7

What He seemed to be telling me was to live in the moment, to bring my concerns to Him with gratitude, and He would give me the peace that would calm my anxiety and sense of overwhelm as well as the strength to do the work.

He left me with this verse:

“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’“ 2 Corinthians 12:9

God’s grace is sufficient for all that He asks of you.

Ask God to join you in your parenting, your meal preparation, your administration, and meetings, and His Presence will empower you to accomplish all that He asks. Do it with a heart of gratitude, and He will bring you a peace that passes all human understanding.

I don’t know about you, but that is good news to me!
