Live a Legacy

“Happy Mother’s Day to the second best mom I know” my son said to me Sunday—Mother’s Day.

I chuckled and said, “As it should be.” He is after all married to the mother of my two grandchildren.

My son was on a speaker phone in the car with the rest of his family. His wife then piped in and said, “You taught him well.”

It got me thinking about the legacies we teach and model for our children that flow down the family line to our children’s children and beyond.

My husband grew up in a family where his mother was loved and honored continually.

Our son grew up in a household where his father loved and honored me every day, as he had learned from his father.

Our son now models that loving and honoring behavior for his own family.

Our young granddaughters daily witness and learn how a loving husband and father behaves.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

I have sat here and tried to write more, but I think that this is what the Lord wants to say today:

Your words and behavior matter—not just for you in the present moment and circumstance, but also for those who hear your words and witness your behavior.

You are living your legacy.

What are you teaching and modeling for generations that follow?
