There are two sides of any team sport: the defense and the offense. As we continue to make halftime adjustments to ensure you are ready for all that the Lord has for you in 2022, let’s take a look at what I call the defensive side of the ball.
My question is this—how are you doing with your defense against the attack of the enemy?
Take a moment to consider where you are spiritually for as Paul writes in
Ephesians 6: 12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
You might be doing everything “right” by the world’s standards, but if you are not aligned with God’s heart, His will, and ways, you might not see the victorious results that you would otherwise experience.
I use the word defense here in order to ask the question–Are you allowing God to be your defender? It is not your job to defend yourself or your territory. That is God’s job.
Psalm 18:1-2 describes God as your defender:
“I love You, O Lord, my strength.”
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
The question is what daily practices do you have in place to assure that you allow God to be your strength?
Can you describe situations when you ran to God as your rock, fortress, and deliverer?
Do you allow God to be your shield and defender or do you take matters into your own hands?
What do you need to surrender to the Lord in order for Him to defend you?
God is your strong tower. He is your place of refuge from the storms of life. Sit with Him to answer the questions above and make the adjustments He leads you to in order to finish 2022 with strength and courage.
