Godly Practices

calendar

Recently there was a question raised in a group about the best college courses to prepare students for the real world. I immediately remembered a college course I didn’t even take. My husband did though, and since we went to the same university, I heard all about his angst with the professor.

The class was Basic Business Writing. His professor seemed intent on editing out most of what his students wrote. His point was that in business there is no room for personal or subjective content. That lesson is perhaps one of the foundational principles I adhere to when conducting business of all kinds.

I was going to title this blog, Godly Business Practices, however I believe this notion of sticking to business when doing business is a skill everyone would be wise to develop.

“Sticking to business” refers to the idea of focusing on behavior with clear and concise language. Even if you are doing business with a friend I recommend that you keep your friend conversations separate from your business conversations.

Be clear with what you are saying or asking. What is the objective? What is the “business” result you are aiming for? Then speak it clearly.

That is doing the business of life God’s way.
