Anxiety is what comes when we sweat the large or the small stuff. The scientific fact is that being anxious not only affects your emotional state, it affects your physical well being as breathing, heart rate, and hormones—as well as other biological functions—shift.
Just this morning I came across a quick antidote you can do when you are feeling anxious. It’s easy and it’s free.
Breathe slowly and deeply. Deep breathing helps tremendously, but here’s the trick: “On each out-breath, think about or repeat a truth from God’s Word. Next, tell God each anxious thought, each situation that causes worry or fear. Slow down, breathe and then say the truth which is that God cares for you and has your circumstance completely under his control.” That instruction is from The Daniel Plan 365-Day Devotional.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
One of the beautiful results of embracing the truth that God is in the details of your life is knowing that He cares when you are having an anxious day.
One of those truths you can breath in is Psalm 34:4
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.”
Seek the Lord. He will answer you.
The apostle Paul offers another tidbit of advice for counteracting anxiety when he advises us to practice gratitude.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
Are you feeling anxious about anything today?
Breathe out the anxious thoughts. Breathe in the truth and promises of God,
Breathe out your anxious thoughts. Breathe in thanksgiving—even for the tiniest thing.
Then allow the peace of God to flood your heart and mind.
Thank you Deborah for this encouraging word from Papa God today. I woke up in the middle of the night with heartburn and had trouble sleeping. I usually dream all night so this was so helpful. I already feel much better. Many more breaths to take today, but with the peace that Jesus gives me I will be fine.
Wow Susie! Thank you for sharing! I love when God puts words into my mouth that one of His children need to hear at just the right time. Praying for you today.
