Five “Rs”: Renounce

The next step in your journey of freedom this week is to renounce the lies that you have believed. You might ask if you have repented of believing the lie, why is it necessary to also renounce the lie?

Renouncing the lie out loud says, “I’m not going there anymore.” You reinforce that posture to yourself in the same way you might use a mantra like, “I am safe.” It keeps you mindful that it is a lie and further opens you to the truth of God.

When you renounce lies out loud you also weaken the enemy’s hold over you. Here, I want to remind you that only God is omniscient—all knowing. I think we often mistakenly believe that satan can read our thoughts. He cannot. Only God knows the mind of man. Satan has to be spoken to in order to hear your intentions. That is why I ask you to speak the words out loud.

By saying, “I renounce the lie that I am weak” (for instance) you diminish the power that lie has over you. Holy Spirit might then remind you that you are strong through Christ—Philippians 4:13.

Once again, the process is simple, but often words can get stuck in our throat when we renounce lies that we have believed for a long time.

I suggest you sit with the Lord for a few minutes—list of lies in hand—and ask Him to continue to reveal His truth to you. It is often by focusing on the truth that you will more easily be able to renounce the lie.

Perhaps you have remembered a particular damaging incident in your past, but you are not sure of the specific lies you have believed because of it. Once again, spend time with Holy Spirit and ask Him to reveal your take away from that incident—the take away that hinders you from soaring as who God created you to be and to do what He created you to do.

I am confident that He will meet you and give you whatever you need to take this important step in your freedom journey.

“‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.’”  Matthew 7:7

The door of God’s heart is always open to you. He waits for you to ask, seek, and knock.

Go ahead, your amazing future awaits.
