blank. The Lord has always shown me what to share. So with trust in the Lord and a keyboard at my fingertips, I asked, “What is it You want me to write, Lord?” What I heard was “Write what you have learned.”
That statement begged the questions—what I have learned from what? When? I believe the lesson I am to share is a realization I had during and after my weekend in Paducah, Kentucky in August. That weekend was a testament to God’s faithfulness to my call AND to the path I am on.
The biggest lesson is that through the past four years—of what could be called a drought season in many ways—the Lord continued to train me for the call of teaching and leading. It often looked different than what I expected, but God faithfully taught me new insights, lessons, skills, and ways of doing ministry.
Every time I climbed out of the box of my comfort zone, God added an arrow to my quiver that I can grab and use when needed. I used a few of those arrows in Paducah, when I was back in front of a live audience.
The apostle Paul speaks of God’s faithfulness to our purpose and vision in 1 Thessalonians 5:24 when he writes, “Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.” The He here is God.
God is the one who created you with a purpose in mind.
God is the one who equips you to fulfill that purpose.
God is the one in charge of getting you to know and act upon what He created you to do.
Are you wondering what God created you to do? Rest as you explore options. It is Holy Spirit’s job to show you. Before a dream can be realized, it must first be recognized. It is God’s job to guide you to the vision He has for you.
Are you taking “the next step” but aren’t sure where it will lead? Trust that the God directed step is on the greater path custom-made for you and your purpose. One step at a time, He will lead you to your next right thing.
Are you mid-flight but not sure where precisely you are heading? Soar with God. Spend time in His Word and His Presence and He will reveal your next stopover and show you the big dream and vision He has for you. Co-laboring with God is an adventure. Sometimes He asks you to lean on Him as He pilots the flight.
Have you arrived at a destination and wonder where your next one lies? Use the layover to pause, rest, and allow the Lord to guide your thoughts and dreams for the next project, chapter, or destination. Take the time to catch up on relationships. Work on your spiritual, physical, or work habits. Hone your skills. Do some research. Have fun and enjoy the gift of the present.
God is faithful to your call and He will bring it to pass.
Peace and freedom are found in the truth of God’s faithfulness. The lesson I learned that I hope I will never forget is that God uses even the most seemingly insignificant things to train us and keep us moving forward in the journey of our call.
It is His call and He is faithful to bring it to pass. Hallelujah!
