Embrace Imperfection

This morning I have been pondering goals. Many times we set goals and then don’t accomplish them because we simply give up the minute something unexpected hinders the process. I know I am guilty of this.

Jon Acuff, in his book Finish suggests that we go off course with our goals because we set the standard of perfection. With an all or nothing mentality of that high standard any imperfection causes us to stop the journey toward achieving the goal.

Once again I am convinced mindset matters.

If you embrace a mindset that says not everything you do must be perfect, it is so much easier to be content. Take weight loss as an example.

Let’s say you set a date and a goal of losing ten pounds by that date. The date is two days away and you have lost five pounds. Do you give up because you did not perfectly make your goal? Or do you celebrate the fact that you are half way to your goal and are five pounds lighter than you were when you began? Mindset matters.

One of the Created For So Much More strategies to living your amazing life is “Live Now.” The strategy encourages you to be present today and allow God to take care of your future. Embracing any hiccup—imperfect results—that comes along is a part of living now.

I am reminded of God being present in our lives. As the psalmist writes,

“God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

God is very present.

God stands ready to meet and help you in your imperfection.

Embrace imperfection. After all, only God is perfect. And you aren’t God.
