“Don’t Box Me In”

  • Deborah

Today is referred to as Boxing Day in some parts of the world. The history of this holiday is a little unclear and the meaning of the day has shifted quite a bit in modern history. The thread that seems to be common throughout the history is that it began as a day for employers and customers to recognize servants and laborers. One background story I read said that servants of a manor were given the day after Christmas off (since they had to serve the family/estate on Christmas).  They were not only given the day off, they were each given a “Christmas Box” with food, gifts, and money.

As I pondered Boxing Day in light of our journey into the so much more of God, I continued to hear Holy Spirit say, “I don’t fit in a box.” What does it look like when you try to stuff the incomprehensible nature of God in a box of personal ideas and beliefs?

  • You might trust God for your spiritual life, but not consider that He is ready and willing to help you with your physical, mental, or emotional health.
  • You might believe that God takes care of the big stuff, but doesn’t care about the details of your life.
  • You might be able to give Him your career and/or relationship, but you don’t believe He can help your son, daughter, mother, father, or friend.

In other words, you limit God to what you can comprehend. He is incomprehensible. He longs to lavish His love, protection, and provision upon you. We understand boxes and containers. God is uncontainable.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.”  Ephesians 3:20

God is able to do far more abundantly for you than the limits, containers, and boxes that reside in your experience and mind.

He is also able to work within you, to empower you to accomplish far more than you could ask or imagine. His Spirit resides in you therefore, the potential is limitless.

God co-labors with you to accomplish His will on the earth. Don’t put limits on how much He can do through you.

As 2022 comes to a close, and we look to 2023, sit awhile with Holy Spirit and ask Him to show you the next right step in the journey to your God-given identity and purpose.

Listen to Him and you might hear Him whisper,

“Don’t box Me in. Give Me room to blow with the wind of My Spirit. Give Me space to ignite the flame of passion within you for the work I have called you to. Allow Me to be the wind beneath your wings as you soar into the so much more that I have for you.”

Happy Boxing Day!
