Curve Balls

  • Deborah

Life has thrown me a few curve balls this week. It has a tendency to do that doesn’t it? Jesus prepared us for that when He said in John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus has overcome the world. That means you and I have the power to overcome curve balls. Like a batter at home plate, hitting a curve ball may require changing your stance and adjusting your grip. What do I mean by that? Take a different perspective.

A slight shift in how you stand will change what you look at. It will change your perspective. One way to change your perspective when life throws you curve balls is to look for those things to be thankful for. By doing so, you change your thoughts, your approach, and even your physical reaction to the stress that might come with the curve ball.

This is what James tells us in James 1:23 when he says, “Consider it joy.”

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

The second way to handle life’s curve balls is to change your grip. Holding tightly to the way you thought your day or a situation would turn out only brings increased stress. In order to be resilient and allow peace to flow, I find it helpful to pause and remember God is in charge. Be still as the psalmist says in Psalm 46:10.

The Amplified Version of the verse reads, Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God.

Life will throw you curve balls that are often out of your control. What you can control is how you address the curve balls that are thrown at you. I recommend that you change your stance and your grip. You’ll be glad you did.
