Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And confirm for us the work of our hands;
Yes, confirm the work of our hands.
Psalm 90:17 NASB 1995
Psalm 90:17 is my “go-to” Scripture when teaching about confirmation. It is all about the work we do—our purpose.
Asking the Lord for His favor as He confirms the work of your hands is a great prayer to speak on a daily basis.
The fascinating thing about this verse is the different ways the Hebrew word is translated confirm. Other translations use the word establish. The Amplified Version, Classic Edition (AMPC) actually uses both establish and confirm.
And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands—yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it. Psalm 90:17 AMPC
A footnote for the word confirm in my (NASB 1995) Bible says, “or give permanence to.”
When we seek the Lord for His God-given identity and purpose all three apply don’t they? We ask that He establish or show us who He created us to be and what He created us to do.
Once we have an idea of our identity and purpose, we ask for God to confirm who He says we are and what we hear Him telling us to do.
Finally we ask for a permanent life change to become the people He created us to be.
It is my opinion that this singular verse is a powerful prayer for ourselves and for each other.
So, in conclusion I ask
That the Lord to shower you with His favor,
That the Lord open your eyes to see who He created you to be.
That the Lord open your ears to hear His confirmation of what He created you to do.
Amen and amen!
Yes and amen! A powerful prayer indeed!
Thank you friend.
You are so welcome! Thank you for your support and encouragement!
