“See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity; in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the Lord your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it.”
(Deuteronomy 30:15-16)
In the passage above, Moses is speaking to the Israelites, but his words apply to us today. Notice the word life is connected to prosperity, multiplication, and blessings. Other words that could be used to translate the word life in this passage are light and blessing. To help us remember the power of our choices we would be wise to keep verse 19 in this chapter before us at all times.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants. (Deuteronomy 30:19)
We all make choices that lead to life, light and blessing—or to death darkness, and destruction. The word death in this verse is connected to adversity. This death is not a physical one, but instead represents a life lived with death, darkness, and destruction. Even after our decision to choose Jesus, we have a choice to work out our salvation daily and to live transformed by the power of the cross—or, we have a choice not to do that.
Even as a follower of Christ, you still need to choose to reject the lies of the enemy and embrace the truth of freedom in Christ. No matter what has happened in your past, Holy Spirit enables and empowers you to make decisions for your life that align with His purpose and plan. Choices that lead to so much more life, light, and blessing.
Choose life My Friend. Christ procured your freedom on the cross. He overcame sin, death, and the power of the devil when He overcame death and rose from the grave. Celebrate the life and freedom that Christ gives to those who follow Him.
Love the Lord, walk in His ways, stay in His Word.
Choose life!
