Gratitude—an attitude of thanksgiving—is more than a good idea to stay content. When you wrap your petitions in thanksgiving the Lord responds. Consider the following verses in Philippians 4.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7
What happens when we lay anxiety aside, and ask the Lord for what you need with thanksgiving? The Lord pours our peace—incomprehensible peace. When the Prince of Peace touches your life it is more than simply feeling better.
The last line of verse seven is significant. “will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
You protect your heart and mind from further anxiety and worry when you clothe yourself with gratitude.
Recognize that even in the midst of the storm you may be in, the Lord is bigger than your circumstances. That in itself is reason to give thanks. What may be a surprise to you is not a surprise to God who knows the end from the beginning. Thank you Lord. The Lords promise to work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28) is worthy of thanksgiving. Thank you God.
Wrap your prayers, your asks, and your needs in thanksgiving and watch as the Prince of Peace goes to work to protect your heart and mind. Peace will flow like a river in your life.
