I have written many times about the notion that the words we speak to others and over ourselves make a difference. We are told in Proverbs 18:21 that life and death are in the power of the tongue.
It is your choice to speak life or death, blessings or curses over yourself and others.
It has struck me recently that this is not only a good idea. Jesus tells us we will be held accountable for the words we speak.
“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36
Highly creative people are also highly sensitive individuals. We creatives often “feel more.” It is part of the gift God has given us in order to represent the “more than meets the eye” of life in visual, musical, or written form. Many have told me that they have been told their whole life that they were labeled too sensitive when words spoken to them bruised their heart.
I have come to believe that the people of God cannot truly ever be “too sensitive.” In fact I would suggest that it is up to the speaker to recognize when they are speaking to a sensitive person and choose appropriate words.
You words matter. They can bring life or death. They can build up or they can tear down.
Another Proverb admonishes us to take the time to choose words wisely.
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. Proverbs 29:20
Show compassion when you speak. Choose your words carefully. They matter.
