Periodic deep cleaning of our hearts—like a demolition day or a freedom appointment—is an important spiritual practice. Much like a weekly or biweekly cleaning of our homes, it is also important to spend time daily and/or weekly to keep your heart clean.
The same steps I use during freedom appointments can be done on a regular basis to ensure your conduit is clean and you continue to walk in freedom every day. The steps are simple. They are not necessarily easy. They can be summed up in two words and actions.
Repentance.
For thus the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said,
“In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15
Sit quietly—rest—with the Lord and ask Him to show you where repentance is needed. You will gain freedom and strength. God is awaits with forgiveness.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”. 1 John 1:9
Forgiveness
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” Matthew 6:14-15
Be quick to forgive others. Don’t wait until you “feel like it.” The act of speaking forgiveness is what brings about the “feel like it.” If you have a difficult time saying, “I forgive him/her,” try “I choose to forgive him/her.” Jesus is there to help you over the threshold of releasing others that have hurt, harmed, or hindered you.
Jesus tells us this is not just a good idea in order to continue to live in the freedom He offers, it is imperative if you want Heavenly Father to forgive you of any wrong doing you have done.
Make it a habit to set aside time with Holy Spirit to do a regular heart cleaning. It is the easiest and surest way into His Presence.
“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart.” Psalm 24:3–4
Time spent with the Lord with a heart ready to repent and forgive is never time wasted. Keep your heart clean and you will soar with so much more freedom than you can imagine.
Hallelujah!
