Steps to Soaring: Live Now

  • Deborah

Embrace your todays and you will soon find yourself enjoying life and soaring through your to-do list with greater ease and confidence. The apostle Paul called this learning to be content.

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. Philippians 4:11

It is not that Paul had it so good all of the time, in fact he goes on to write just the opposite.

I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. Philippians 4:12

The learning process of living in contentment is part of the push/pull of faith.

Live with big dreams within you, and you will undoubtedly live with a certain amount of tension. Years ago, the Lord showed me that this tension was holy discontentment. You find it when the Lord uses “uncomfortableness” to keep you from complacency. Holy discontentment keeps you investigating, studying, and moving forward in the things God calls you to do.

Even in the state of holy discontentment, you can be content and live now. You live now when you embrace today’s work, challenges,  rest, etc. with an attitude of gratitude.

Paul gives us a glimpse of how he stays content in his letter to the Thessalonians.

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15-17

Find joy in the moment.

Speak to the Lord about your situation.

Thank God in your today.

You don’t need to thank God FOR the storm or challenge you face, but IN the midst of the storm, give Him thanks. Offerings of praise and thanksgiving even in the most dire circumstances, acknowledge that He alone is in charge and is sovereign.

Express gratitude daily and you will soon find yourself soaring as you live contentedly in your sacred now.
