Lessons From the Easel: Hidden Treasures

  • Deborah
Abstract Painting of Love

I have told you about the “more than meets the eye” nature of the work I do at the easel. When I paint with Holy Spirit, He often gives me symbols and images precious to the person who commissioned me to paint. There are often times though, that I am finished or nearly finished with a piece before I discover hidden images that I had no knowledge I was painting.

These hidden treasures are particularly prevalent when I work on abstract paintings where God seems to tuck special messages for specific people within what can be considered a mess of colors to many.

I reminded of Proverbs 25:2

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,

But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

We co-labor with the Lord when we search for the hidden treasures He has tucked into our lives. How do you search out hidden treasure?

The Apostle Paul gives us one never-fail method in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 when he writes,

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

In other words:

Rejoice always: choose joy.

Pray without ceasing: stay in communication with the Lord.

In everything give thanks: adopt an attitude of gratitude.

All three pieces of this puzzle can be considered a part of a lifestyle that looks for God’s hidden treasures. The best way I know to find the hidden treasures in your life is to put on lenses of joy, prayer, and gratitude.

It was when I put on the lenses of love with this  painting from the Fruit of the Spirit Collection, Above when I began to see hearts in places I didn’t expect. I also saw a person worshipping with hands raised. When I looked for hearts, I found them.

When you look for treasures in your life you will find them.

***This painting is another in the Fruit of the Spirit collection. This one represents love.
